Modular Sofa by Ron Arad

Ron Arad’s one-of-a-kind creative approach each time creates a challenge in the way materials are used in the production stages and design. His new Do-Lo-Rez combines or shall we say perfectly blends the worlds of the hi-tech, arts and design. It’s a quite stylish sofa made out of few comfortable, square-based rectangular- or cube-shaped elements of different heights. The elements are organized in rows in order to create the shape of the ‘traditional’ sofa, and fixed to a platform using steel pins. The elements all have approximately 8.26 by 8.26 inches footprint while varying in height from 10.82 to 32.67 inches. They’re manufactured of different-density polyurethane foam. Softer foam used at the top guarantees best comfort and stiffer foam is used at the bottom of each element to grip the steel pin. These components can be easily rearranged to form a variety of compositions and shapes. This surprisingly complex designer sofa is not simple at all in production, construction and structure terms. The designer proposes a modern look at design to bring the imaginary world into the real world.

Modular Sofa by Francesc Rifé

Well known designer from Spain Francesc Rifé has created the MUS Sofa for KOO International. Of clear Nordic inspiration, at the base of the design is the wooden platform supporting the cushions. In other words, this pallet with a couple of sacks dropped on top is what gives the like its identity. Composed of several elements, such as a chaise lounge and puffs, this modular sofa will go with auxiliary furniture like side and coffee tables or perhaps accessories like garden boxes or magazine racks. These elements add something of a human quality to the line. It can also be used to divide spaces.

It is the minimalism and multifunctional design of these sofas that gives them their modern appeal. They are the project of Dhesja. Each and every sofa is modular therefore can be arranged in a number of creative ways to perfectly suit the interior/exterior. The sofas can be found in a couple of ranges – the aptly named Tetris and Lounge. The modular pieces of Tetris are created out of rectangular and square blocks, making them very adaptable featuring an imaginative flair; so it is possible to create all sorts of configurations. Lounge is made up of elegant chair bases and components that can be fitted together in an arrangement to perfectly suit the interior. In both ranges a number of fun patterns and color combination are available, the Tetris looking particularly bold in purple and hot pink tones. Striped seats mixed with white work amazing in both collections, with a neat fabric etched with Latin typography the most appealing.
