Assaf Wexler and Santiago Restrepo of Dosuno Design in Bogota designed a lot of multifunctional furniture pieces, among which is Deckstool.
Several of their furniture pieces, like the Deckstool, can easily transform to serve a variety of functions and therefore are much more environmentally-friendly. This was a major consideration when designing Deckstool.
The design is based on the simple concept of ‘disappearing when not in use.’ The multifunctional piece at the same time gives its users the advantage of having a place to sit/host and a bigger open space. Since in a perfect living space there is no furniture, one would simply pick up pieces from the space, i.e. floor and walls. Next, those surfaces will transform into what is needed at that moment, all in order to accomplish the function, in this particular case a seating space. Once one finishes using the Deckstool it’ll perfectly roll back and integrate in the living space again.
